My Roman Polanski story…..

As if you haven’t had enough of me and my encounters with celebs….anyway, in the light of the fuss surrounding his arrest I wanted to share this with you.

Back in, I think it was 1977, I was sitting in the Opera Cellar restaurant in Stockholm with my stepfather. At the time I was a teenager with film star aspirations. I wanted to be the next Audrey Hepburn.

Roman Polanski was seated at a nearby table and he kept staring at me. I of course had no idea who he was. My stepfather, however, did.

“If you’re really serious about being an actress then go and talk to him,” he said.

I was too shy to. But I often wonder how different my life might have been if I had and he had cast me as Tess instead of Natasha Kinski…..

  1. Or…He might have made a very young honest woman out of you. His wife, French actress Emmanuelle Seigner is 30 sth years younger than him.

  2. Goodness, that’s a real “what if?” teaser and made even more exciting for I could see you as Tess. Makes me wonder though whether subconsciously you really wanted to be an actress for, if you had, you would have probably plonked yourself down on his knee the moment he came in. I don’t know a great deal about the profession but it’s clearly extremely competitive and must require cunning and determination to get anywhere. His personal life aside, I’m a huge admirer of his work.
By the way, talking of what little girls want to do when they grow up, check out the gospel according to Bryony Gordon in this morning’s Torygraph. The prose is still appalling but for once she’s mildly amusing. She quotes a friend who wants to be Kylie Minogue before adding that her friend is 31!
