Last week…..

11th April 2010

This is getting ridiculous. I have no time to blog. So many things happen that I want to talk about and then suddenly another day has gone by and I haven’t had a chance. So here is a quick summary of recent events… Most upsetting moment – the Wikilea …

Heathcliff comes to Abu Dhabi

5th April 2010

So this ex-boyfriend thing has now reached ridiculous heights….not that Heathcliff (as you may remember him from blogs of years ago) was ever my boyfriend. No, he was the first love of my life. I was all of 17 when I met him at Pucci’s Pizzas in Chel …

Sorry for the long silence

31st March 2010

It has been a very hectic week. I am on a two-week try-out for the job of deputy editor so suddenly have masses to do at work. I am loving it though, I feel totally energetic and excited about it. Editing is just like writing but with a lot less runnin …

My father is on facebook

24th March 2010

Normally this would not be anything special, but he happens to be of a certain age which I’m sure he will disinherit me if I write. Suffice to say he is closer to 100 than 50. Much closer. I am extremely proud of him and proud to be listed as his daugh …

Message from my father to my son

17th March 2010

Leo is still terribly in love. “I have a heart broken,” he told me last night. The cause of this is still Eloise who has now apparently fallen in love with a boy with dark hair – can you imagine? “It’s not about how cute you are mummy,” he told me angr …

A cruel disease

15th March 2010

I have never before cut and pasted something to share with you, and I hope I am not in breach of any copyright laws, but this is one of the most brilliant, tragic and thought-provoking articles I have ever read. It is from the New York Review of Books …

And the winner is…

11th March 2010

Question: what do Gwyneth Paltrow, Hugh Grant, Mika, Clive Owen, Kevin Spacey, Michelle Rodriguez and I have in common? Answer: we were all at the Laureus Sports Awards at the Emirates Palace Hotel on Wednesday night. The Oscars may have been and gone …

Two of my favourite things…

7th March 2010

So my Zeldafication begins in earnest on Tuesday when I go to an advanced adult ballet class with our lovely new lodger Una, who was at ballet school until she was 14. Yes I know that I am not advanced, but did that ever stop Zelda? So wish me luck. Me …

The Salon

5th March 2010

I have always been rather intrigued by the idea of the salon; it seems to me a perfect combination of drinking and thinking. According to Wikipedia it is “a gathering of intellectual, social, political, and cultural elites under the roof of an inspirin …

How a very small minority lives

2nd March 2010

Picture the scene: I am doing yoga looking out over a 90 degree view of Jumeirah Beach in Dubai from the comfort of the 34th floor. Someone is pressing the dress I am going to wear this evening to dinner with my husband in a private dining room. Two cl …
