Tomorrow is the UAE’s birthday. It is 37 years old. That makes me older than the country I am living in. Kind of makes you think. How often does that happen to a person I wonder?
The whole city is lit up like a Christmas tree. There are cars completely covered in UAE flags driving around, I can’t imagine how they can see out. But that shouldn’t affect the driving much.
Tomorrow is a national holiday. There is going to be the biggest fireworks display ever at the Emirates Palace Hotel. Apparently it will be tough to get within three miles of it, but I am hoping that if it’s that big I’ll be able to see it from the comfort of my own terrace where, along with many others who are older than the nation, I will be sitting in my rocking chair, knitting and reminiscing about the good old days……
But for tonight I will be a teenager again as I dance my way through George Michael’s greatest hits with my friend Amanda. She is also older than the nation, which I think you have to be to know all the words to ‘Careless Whisper’.
