AArrrrgggghhhhhh!!!

10th March 2008 by Helena 6 Comments

As I write the Daily Mail photographer is speeding his way through the Languedoc countryside to photograph me for the serialisation of my book on anti-ageing. And what do I have?

Grey hair, that’s what I have. Right at the front. You can’t miss it. And a spot on my chin. I suppose at least that makes me look young.

Now where's my shoe polish?I was meant to go to the hairdresser this morning. I thought they would come tomorrow. But no, they are here and will be with me by 10.30 am. When I say ‘they’ I mean the photographer, the make-up artist and my suitcase of designer clothes. It’s not a bad way to spend a Monday.

But back to the hair. I have already spoken to several friends about this, they both suggest shoe polish. Is this wise I ask myself? What if the shade is wrong and what about the smell? Another suggests mascara. But my mascara is black. I am hoping the make-up artist will have some ideas. Meanwhile I am looking for a brown felt-tip pen.

Wish me luck……

A very interesting blog. I am very keen on yoga. What I would like to know is this: how did you manage to get your foot in that position?

I thought you would be interested to know that in my mid 40’s my hair started to turn silver. After spending alot of time and money trying to cover it, I finally just let it go. I surrendered to a head of silver hair. This runs in my family and my husband loves it.One must adjust their makeup colours and there are lots of hair products to keep your locks looking silver, not mousy gray. I mentioned to my Dad one day that my hair was turning gray just like his and he said, ” My hair isn’t gray, it’s blonde.” He has a point considering that I spent a fortune in my twenties getting my hair frosted and now it’s free. Besides “I’ve earned every one of those gray hairs.

    Dear Helena
I’m sure, by now, you’re relaxing after a splendid photo shoot and that you managed to successfully ‘deal’ with the grey bit.I hope so anyway.
What is your philosophy on greying hair?
I was almost black haired and have just kept on colouring it (but not quite so dark) but there comes a time….!
It’s so much easier for blondes and redheads to mutate their hair colour much more subtlely over the years; and what will you do with the first grey ‘below’?That is truly a terrible moment!!

    Hi Clare
My philosophy is not to give in yet, I figure while some people still believe I don’t have grey hair it is my duty to nourish that belief. The photographer was a darling and has promised to photoshop any grey that made it in. He has also given me permission to use a pic so will post one soonest.

Dark brown eyeshadow or eyebrow powder works well in a pinch, you can dab it on with the corner of a makeup sponge.

My approach to grey hair consists of equal parts of dye and denial. 😉
