Amazon drama

17th March 2011

Yesterday someone posted a REALLY nasty review of the book on Amazon. It said it was “rushed and badly edited”, and that the only reason it would sell at all was that I am a relentless self-publicist (moi!?!) and had written some other, better books, s …

OMG!!! Just spotted this….from today’s Daily Mail…move over Jonny

13th March 2011

My steamy memories of Marco Intimate scene: Helena Frith Powell Marco Pierre White not only picked up the tab for old flame Helena Frith Powell’s book launch, the moody chef broke with tradition and turned up to the shindig at his restaurant, Frankie’s …

Thank God for Jonny

13th March 2011

I rarely need an excuse to post a pic of my favourite sporting heroes, and a lucky win over Scotland is more than enough reason to….so here he is again, Jonny Wilkinson, the greatest living Englishman….(not to mention one of the cutest). PS Could a …

Book Club Abu Dhabi style

13th March 2011

I flew back here yesterday and almost immediately had to go to a meeting of my book club, not the one I created, but one I was asked to join just a week ago. The book under discussion was We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver. This is a book th …

Numbers game…

7th March 2011

3rd March 2011

Because I use this blog in part as a diary, I am going to post a speech my deputy made today and show you the glorious cake the magazine team had made for me. I just don’t want you to think I am trying to show off. But it was too lovely a gesture not t …

The Little Captain

21st February 2011

I have been worried that Leo is far too nice for his own good. He never does anything remotely mean or nasty, is constantly kind and considerate and generally just gorgeous. But yesterday he proved that he has a little more mettle than I credit him wit …

Blood in Bahrain

18th February 2011

Just read the following in an excellent article from today’s New York Times (www.newyorktimes.com). It is so tragic that these outdated despots can’t see that change is inevitable, with or without bloodshed. Rupert was in Bahrain last week and said the …

Read all about it…….

14th February 2011

From today’s Daily Mail….I am a novelist! Finally! Novelist Helena Frith Powell writes, in her latest work, Love In A Warm Climate: ‘Johnny was tall, about six-foot-two, and well-built. But he had the most delicate hands, like a pianist’s – small wit …

The tennis bug…..

12th February 2011

I have been trying in vain for years to turn one of my children into a potential tennis pro, or at least to engage them in the game enough to ensure I always have someone to play with . Until yesterday, I had not been successful. Then came the breakthr …
